Sherry has been with the City of Grant since September of 1997. She was hired as the City Treasurer/Deputy Clerk, and served in this position until 2005. She was appointed to the City Clerk position in May 2005, and also served as Interim City Manager from late spring to late summer 2005 when Frank Peterson was eventually hired. Sherry served in this capacity again from early spring to summer 2007 when Doug La Fave was hired. In June 2007, Sherry was appointed to Assistant City Manager/Clerk. She currently serves as Interim City Manager until a new manager is hired.
Sherry has a Degree in Accounting and Computer Information Systems from Baker College. She is currently continuing her education at Baker College and Ferris State University, and is also a 2002 graduate of the Leadership in Newaygo County (LINC) nine month comprehensive leadership series. Sherry obained her Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) certification from the International Institute of Municipal Clerks in October 2010 and the Certified Michigan Municipal Clerk (CMMC) certification from the Michigan Association of Municipal Clerks (MAMC) in April 2015. Sherry has always served as the City of Grant's representative to the Chamber of Commerce. She was elected Vice President of the Board of Directors of the former Grant Area Chamber of Commerce (now integrated into the River Country Chamber of Commerce of Newaygo County) and also served as Grant Frontier Festival Chair in 2009. She has also served several years as the City of Grant's representative on the Ashland-Grant Fire Board and a few years on the Grant Area District Library Board of Trustees. Sherry's husband Dan previously served nearly a decade as a City Commissioner, leaving to serve two consecutive elected terms as the Newaygo County District 7 Commissioner. Currently Dan is enjoying over seventeen years at Spectrum Health Gerber Memorial, where is currently the Director of Inpatient Services while teaching accelerated nursing students for Ferris State University. Dan and Sherry have one son.

City Clerk Job Duties Include:
Administers all Elections for the City of Grant Precinct#1and the Grant Public School Election Precinct #6
Maintains Entire Voter Registration Database and Issuance of New Cards
Maintain all official records including Meeting Minutes, Agendas, Ordinances, and Resolutions
Maintains all records and database for Parkview Cemetery
Currently serves as Ex-officio member of the City Planning Commission
Advisory member of the Downtown Development Authority
Member of the Wellhead Protection Team
Handles Records Retention for administrative offices
Administers all General Ledger, Accounts Payable, and Payroll
Maintains Human Resources records, forms, and reports
Assists with Budgeting and assists in managing Budget Amendments
Maintains City's Revenues and Disbursements information utilizing BS&A Fund Accounting Software and Procedures
City's Internal Auditor/Oversees Development and Implementation of Accounting Procedures
Assists with Zoning Compliance Permits and Economic Development as needed
Administers Oaths of Office for elected and appointed officials and staff
Maintenance of City Website
Provides Crosstraining for Administrative Staff and oversight of student interns
Represents the City of Grant on the Chamber of Commerce
Assists with Numerous Related City functions As Needed
