City of Grant Michigan

Economic Development
The City of Grant is happy to assist anyone interested in commercial or industrial development. We are part of a cooperative intergovernmental venture with other county entities whose goal is to aid you in your business pursuits. We encourage you to contact our office as well as the Newaygo County Economic Development Office. Developers may also be interested in the services of the Newaygo County Geographic Information System which provides parcel mapping, taxable valuations, ownership information, as well as other useful information.

The City has also recently completed a large upgrade to our waste-water system. We now can easily treat an additional demand of 100,000 gallons per day during the peak discharge period of September through June (The School Year) and an additional 245,000 gallons per day during the rest of the year. This added waste-water capacity complements our municipal water system quite well.

Non Homested Tax Bill Sample
Above is a sample tax bill with the breakdown of current millage rates for the city. A mill is equivalent to 1/1,000 of a dollar, therefore for every $1,000 of taxable value a property owner will pay $1. For an example if during the summer tax season the total mills levied equals 28.6958 and the property owner has a taxable value of $50,000 the following mathematical equation would be followed.

28.6958 mills divided by 1,000 (since a mill is 1/1,000 of a dollar) equals 0.0286958. Then Multiply 0.0286958 by $50,000 (the taxable value) which equals $1,434.79 the total amount due for this summer tax scenario. A 1% administration fee is also added to the final amount.

Those interested in purchasing property in the City of Grant may find taxable valuations through the mapping program provided by Newaygo County Geographic Information Service (Link Below) However remember that due to 1995 Proposal A taxable values will reset to equal the State Equalized Value (SEV) upon purchase. After purchase taxable values will not rise faster than the rate of inflation even though the actual value of the property may do so.
